Byron Bay is in Northern NSW close to the QLD border. Cape Byron is Australia’s most easterly point. Byron Bay is famous for it's alternative lifestyles and it attracts people from all walks of life.

What we call Byron Bay was called 'Cavvanbah' by the Bundjalung people.  Byron Bay was the common territory at the junction of this large indigenous group's northern and southern tribes, the Minjungbal and the Arakwal.
Captain James Cook named the area "Byron Bay" after John Byron, the grandfather of Lord Byron (the famous poet) and a navigator.

Byron Bay was once a whaling station and is now more famous for whale watching, especially for land based whale watching from Byron Bay's iconic lighthouse. The whale migration pods come in close to Byron Bay which makes for spectacular viewing.

Byron Bay has a population of about 5,500 people with it’s own radio station named 99.9 Byron Bay FM.  Byron Shire has a population of about 30,000.

Byron is famous for it’s locally produced products that range from Organic foods to modern/contemporary art. These can be obtained from the Byron Bay Markets or the Byron Farmers Markets.

Byron's restaurants, bars and nightclubs, are home to fantastic quality of food, service and entertainment.

Have a cold locally brewed beer at the famous Beach Hotel or Friendly Railway Bar .

The hinterland of Byron is alive with plantations of coffee, macadamia, pecan, avocado, tropical fruits and beautiful rainforest retreats and walks. The kids are not forgotten either with places like Crystal Castle or Macadamia Castle.

Byron Bay is home to a coffee culture that is second to none, with world class Baristas, serving up fantastic locally grown coffees.

The town is famous for not only its great surfing beaches, but also world class surfboard manufacturers, like Sky surfboards, Maddog, McTavish Longboards, and Munro Boards.  

The beaches cater for the beginner to the expert , from perfect north coast peaks at Belongil beach, Clarkes beach, the Wreck, or, endless long perfect waves at The Pass, and awesome left hand barrels at Cosy Corner at Tallow beach.

A short drive can take you to Broken Head and Lennox Head Surf Reserve and on to Ballina’s beaches. These are the spots where Byron Bay board riders hone their skills.

Byron Bay surf schools are renowned for their professional, qualified and excellent learn to surf classes.

Byron Bay attracts visitors to it’s clean clear sub tropical turquoise coloured waters all year round.

It is a resort popular with both domestic and international tourists, including backpackers, grey nomads, campervans, caravans, motorcycle riders like Ulysses M C Club and all kinds of travellers who like to explore the Australian coast.
